"I love the sE2200. It's an absolute war horse."
- Matt Barnes, You Me At Six -

The sE2200: Classic sound, by any standards.

The sE2200 is the latest version of the award-winning cardioid condenser microphone that put sE Electronics on the map many years ago with its smooth, polished sound for vocals, voiceovers, and numerous instrumental applications.

Made famous through use with world-class vocal artists like Amy Winehouse, it revives the spirit of classic studio microphones, and still remains a standard in mic lockers around the world.

Given the revered status of its predecessors, sE has remained true to the original capsule design, custom-built transformer and class-A circuit topologies, so it’s still the same condenser microphone loved by a whole generation of engineers.

An older version sE2200a.

State-of-the-art components and a shorter, optimized signal path provide even better noise performance & clarity, new pad & filter options increase its versatility, and the fit & finish has been updated with sE’s latest manufacturing techniques - but the sE2200 retains all the classic sound of the original.

Although the sE2200 is a cardioid-only microphone, two (instead of one) gold-sputtered diaphragms are used to ensure best possible acoustic performance.

Built like the world’s finest musical instruments, every capsule is hand-crafted and individually tuned in our very own factory in Shanghai - and unlike other microphones with backplate or electret designs, the sE2200 features a true externally polarized condenser capsule, and therefore delivers the best possible performance in every aspect.

Its carefully selected, discrete components ensure brilliant sound quality on any source. The sE2200’s design still avoids using any ICs (integrated circuits) and is built to excel – not to a standard. Low noise, consistent performance and high sensitivity is provided by state-of-the-art surface-mounted electronic components with extremely tight tolerances.

The -10 dB and -20 dB pad switches provide extended dynamic range, enabling a wide variety of applications and close-mic techniques for even the loudest instruments...think super-heavy electric guitars, fortissimo brass instruments, and heavy-footed kick drums.

Selectable at either 80Hz or 160Hz, the two low-cut filters help eliminate low-frequency rumble or footfall noise, as well as help compensate for excessive bass (proximity effect) with close-mic techniques.

Reviving the spirit of classic studio microphones, the sE2200’s custom transformer provides superb depth & weight to the overall sonic image, and the massively shielded metal housing ensures noise-free operation.

Unlike the cheaply constructed bodies of some other affordable microphones, the sE2200's all-metal chassis provides efficient rejection of any electrical interference and noise - and the high-quality finish ensures a great look for years to come.

Ensures loss-free, reliable signal connection for years and years and years and...

"I love the sE2200. It's an absolute war horse. We use it in our band's studio and we take it on tour - it can handle being chucked in my backpack, which is what we need on the road. Great bang for your buck, and I love having the freedom of plug & play immediately."

- Matt Barnes, You Me At Six

"The sE Electronics sE2200 is an amazing microphone. It delivers a high resolution, an open, complete and slightly 'modern' frequency response in the broad sweet spot and a functional equipment - for really very little money."

" is amazing how 'big' and 'noble' a microphone can sound for this price."

- Nick Mavridis,, 2017

“I promote the sE2200 in my voice-over workshops and classes. I explore various microphones with each voice to find which mic is best for that voice, and this sE2200 turns out to be the most widely chosen, as it performs as well - or even better - than many of the more expensive microphones.

I use the sE2200 in my booth during my workshops so everyone can see how well it performs. I love the relationship that is developing between me, "Booth Camp" and sE Electronics!”

- Joe Loesch, Grammy Nominated Producer / Voice Actor / Coach / Booth Camp

"I have used my 2200 primarily as a vocal mic, and have found pleasing results on a broad range of vocal timbres. Its subtly vintage yet highly detailed sound plays great with both solid state and tube preamps."

"When in doubt on how to get the tone I'm looking for, I always try this mic first, and rarely need to reach for a second."

- Josh Turner, Singer / Arranger / Multi-Instrumentalist / Engineer - sE Artist

"You can get better quality if you pay 10 times the price, but the difference is less than you might expect."

- Paul White, Sound On Sound, 2003 (full review)

"I have been using the sE Electronics 2200a for years. It’s by far my favorite affordable large diaphragm condenser. I use this almost every day for recording my own voice, and find myself using it in the majority of vocal sessions."

"Compared to the competition in this price range, the sE2200a excels...In general, the 2200a has a slightly warmer tone, and more clarity in the top end..."

- Rob Mayzes, Musician On A Mission

“The sE2200 is my mic of choice to record with! I love the clarity it gives, especially when I’m singing in my lower register!  It’s a keeper!”

- Roderick Harper, vocalist

"I was hesitant to try the sE2200a, having just used it as the “center” mic for the acoustic tracks, but I gave it a go anyway. Bingo! The highs were up front but much smoother than with the other mics, and the proximity effect brought up the “chest” in Chris’s voice. And the mids — especially the upper mids — were just what I needed…”

“Sean McCarthy covers a whole range of vocal styles — whispering, talking, singing, screaming — sometimes all in one take! The sE2200a turned out to be the perfect mic because it was extremely quiet but very capable of handling the screams."

- Andy Hong, Recording Hacks

"I've heard this back to back with a U87 and it's damn close. The fact that this mic is $299 is an absolute steal. We ended up using this mic ahead of several others that were far more expensive. Great buy."

"This mic is absolutely incredible. I challenge you to find a cardioid condenser that is better under $1000. I was hesitant to purchase this because I already have several $500 mics, but this thing blows them away. I typically use this on vocals, but it would be great for just about anything. Very clear, plenty of headroom, and a sweet modern sound."

"I have been playing and doing home recording for over 50 yrs and this just blows me away."

"This mic is NO JOKE!!"

"It has the up-front character you've probably been over-compressing to get, with all of the high end sheen of a Neumann."

"The workmanship is absolutely first-rate, and materials are all excellent...I'm quite positive that this mic is going to last me the rest of my life, and I plan to get a lot of use out of it. I have a lot of mics, and some far more expensive ones, but it is very hard to get this quality at this price."

"I bought one and after I had used it for a few weeks, I went and bought another one. I've used mine on A LOT of instruments (kick, overheads, toms, guitar amp, bass cab, banjo, mandolin, violin, cello, piano, percussion, vocals, room mic) and have never been disappointed with the results. At such a low cost, its a no brainer, buy one! or do what I did and buy two!"

"Has a particularly transparent sound which again lends itself well to versatility in the studio. It's also very solid and reliable."

"The highs have a very crisp sound, while the lows and mids are anything but muddy...The roll-off pad worked great for some of the rumble coming from the neighbors footsteps upstairs."

"If you don't have this mic in your arsenal you are on crack. This mic just makes everything sound so good. sE Electronics is on the right path with this mic."

"Really can't say enough about how great this mic is."
